What happened when I stopped taking collagen

When I first started taking collagen, I only expected to take it for 30 days. I wanted to see what the fuss was about, and if I noticed any positive benefits.

As day day 30 approached, I had just started to see some subtle differences in the smoothness of my skin and the strength of my nails. Plus, it had become habit to add it to my pre-workout smoothie for an added protein boost.

I reordered the Marine Collagen Peptides on Amazon. Pretty soon, a year passed and I was still taking the same peptides. Now, collagen was no longer a fringe supplement – there were new brands popping up every day.

The ones that really intrigued me were the vegan alternatives. I keep a primarily plant-based diet, and I was interested to see if I could get the same results from a vegan collagen supplement.

In order to conduct a true test, I would need to stop taking my marine collagen peptides and give myself a solid break in between the supplements.

I stopped all collagen cold-turkey.

6 weeks later I was ready to try out The Beauty Chef – Organic Collagen Booster. Before I started taking it, it was time to assess the current quality of my skin.

My nails were shorter from breakage. The skin on my face was duller, and the tiny bumps on my forehead and cheeks were back.

What I found shouldn’t have surprised me – it was these same results that kept me using it to begin with – but it’s so easy to get used to what we see in the mirror. Also, there was something about going from clear glowy skin to dull rough skin in such a short period of time that made the contrast much more apparent.

It also served to confirm that the changes I had seen were real, and related to my collagen usage. It’s hard to be sure what exactly is causing changes in your body when there are so many potential inputs to your skin health, from diet, to environment, stress, and hormones. Seeing the benefits quickly reverse made me more confident in the benefits of taking Hydrolysed collagen for my skin.

Now it was time to see if a vegan collagen booster could bring me back. Here you can seen my review of The Beauty Chef – Organic Collagen Booster.

    • Hi Sravani! Your skin will go back to normal once you stop taking collagen. It won’t leave you worse off than before, but the benefits won’t continue once you stop taking it. I agree, it’s so expensive, and I hate to rely on a supplement. I stopped taking collagen awhile ago and have been experimenting with habits and diet and I’ve been able to create similar results with that alone. I’m working on putting together some detailed information about what I’ve found to share here. Stay tuned! 🙂
